HV ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Fulltime Position

Job Description

We design, manufacture, deliver and provide services for HV Switchboards and RVCB’s across key sectors, Power and Energy, Water, Light and Heavy Industrial, across the UK as well as globally.

We believe in supporting our Team and expect, through mutual engagement, contributions from each Team Member concerning aspects of product design, assembly, and operation to ensure we have continual improvement for the benefit of all.

The successful applicant will be responsible for various site and workshop activities within SPE Energy.

Working from the Abercarn facility reporting directly to the Power Distribution Engineering Manager (PDEM). The successful applicant will be working on, but not limited to project-based activities, maintenance, servicing, and fault finding on Site with other Team Members or in our Abercarn facility.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for successful completion and handover of all work in timescales given.
  • Responsible for the relevant feedback and reports being submitted timeously.
  • Responsible for continual development of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for site activities.
  • Responsible for compilation of RAMS and Method Statements for all work as relevant.
  • Responsible stock control systems. (Control of goods, instruments etc., ensuring items are booked in and out of Store as relevant for the different Works Orders.
  • Responsible for own time sheets and obtaining Customers’ signature.

EH&S

Duties

SPEE and Customer specific OHS legal compliance. You must be responsible and accountable for your own activities on site and at our Abercarn facility, abide by specific procedures highlighted in the relevant inductions.

 Near miss reporting activities to be completed.

  • Testing and Commissioning but not limited to 11kV Systems. (Ductor, Pressure Testing, Primary and Secondary Injection, Point to Point, Functionality.)
  • Installation and Commissioning of Company products and other ancillary equipment etc.
  • Maintenance on old and new equipment. (OCB, VCB, ACB)
  • Panel wiring.
  • Protection upgrades.
  • Out of hours working subject to customer requirements.
  • Reporting of non-conformance, quality concessions actions, rework, and waste.
  • Ensuring calibration and PAT testing is current prior to use and escalate recalibration if out of date.
  • Assist in writing site SOP’s and documents on a continual basis.
  • Ensure that correct and accurate paperwork is generated for each contract. (Test Reports, Risk Assessment and Method Statement, Handover Certificates etc.)
  • Mentoring and Development of new Team Members.

Role Description

Multiple Projects are run in parallel with one another, requiring a flexible approach. Projects are mostly National but International Projects do occur from time to time. The successful applicant will be required to partake in all activities relating to the projects, from initial build, using schematic diagrams to wire, assembly of panels for various products, testing the completed product, installation, final commissioning, and testing onsite.

 

The type of testing, mentioned above, is the base of the work; on the job training will be given as well as external training where relevant. Subject to experience of the applicant the level of the position on offer will be determined at the interview stage.

Nice to have – the successful applicant to have the ability to design HV 11kV Systems to Customer requirements.

 

Qualifications and Criteria

Indentured Electrical Apprenticeship. HNC in Electrical Engineering – Relevant experience in similar posts will be considered if this can be demonstrated. 5 GCSE or equivalent Grade C or above must include Mathematics. 2 Years experience in an Electrical / Engineering role with 11kV Equipment Experience would be advantageous.
